The Bad Plus is one of my favorite acts out there right now. I saw them at Nighttown when they came to Cleveland last year. They put on one of the best live shows I have seen in a long time. I would recommend seeing them if they every come around.

With the state of relatively unsupervised flac/ogg/mp3 distribution around the net, live ticketed performances will be the only viable way to sustain a quasi-mainstream music career in the coming years. (Obviously the rules change for local bands and the pop giants.) I think these collaborations will prove to, as you have said, strengthen and broaden the fan bases of both parties. The Radiohead-style approach you mention is a great avenue, but I suspect that a critical mass of fans is necessary prior to undertaking such an endeavor.

I am also a classical bassist and adamnt fan of both of these brilliant musicians. Do you think we will see more collaboration of this kind, and why? To me, it seems that with the changing concert scene, instrumentalist are more frequently seeking out these types of opportunities in order to reach a broader fan base. Yet, with the recent developments in the record industry and proliferation of classical musics accessibility via the web, I could also see instrumentalist heading in a more Radiohead/ do-it-yourself approach.

I saw Bob Dylan at Virgin fest and was so disappointed. He sounded worse than a death rattle and didn't acknowledge the crowd. Then again, the crowd made me want to puke: "No, I don't know any of his songs. But come on! It's Bob Dylan!". That being said, I just bought Blonde on Blonde.

JVG!! Hello! I was just checking my wordpress stats and I saw that a person had found my site through 'audiogoldfish'... I thought... 'audio-what?!' so I clicked on over and was so happy to see it was your site!

Anyways, thanks for linking to me... I will be sure to check in often :)

Also - as for 'relaxing' music, the one band that has been helping me deal with jetlag and relax at night has been 'Nickel Creek.' I don't know if you've heard of them or not, but they are sort of a folksy bluegrass group. If you get a chance, I recommend checking out the album 'This Side!'
